unit overview
This unit examines ministries and functions within the Church, focusing particularly on the Catholic Church in Australia. Students explore the notion and nature of service in the Church, including the ordained ministry. Students are encouraged to appreciate those people who offer service in the various ministries and to reflect on their own contribution to the mission of the Church. This unit asks the question: 'what can I do to help?'

THE ROLE OF ministry in the church
The distinction between ordained ministry and other forms of ministry. Through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist all people in the Church are called to serve God and others. Some people remain single and others serve as married people and parents. Some become religious sisters and brothers. Some serve God and the community in the ordained ministry. These people are deacons, priests and bishops.
